I agree with everyone a little on this thread. People shredded George Lucas during and after the PT. I never shredded him, but I definitely shredded certain aspects of his work in that trilogy. And yet, while I have enjoyed both TFA and the new canon books, George's storytelling has always been at the heart of what has historically made Star Wars great. I would even suggest that it was specifically in the PT that the heights of this raconteur were achieved. And whereas his rumored ideas didn't sit well with me, sure, of course we'd all like to see what George would have done to close out the Skywalker story. Sadly, George Lucas is getting almost into his mid 70's. Star Wars had to eventually move past George (realistically). I know from a quote by him right before he sold to Disney how it sounded like all the years of hate on him had finally taken its toll on him...something along the lines of, "Why would I keep making more Star Wars movies when all everyone does is tell me what a bad person I am?!" He also expressed interest in giving the franchise to a new generation of filmmakers. I also enjoy the new movies. They definitely aren't perfect - but neither are the prequel or OT movies. I choose to enjoy them for what they are vs. what I wish they would be. When I find myself starting to wish for something different, I just remind myself that at the end of the day, they're just movies. Fun movies but movies nonetheless.
