I haven't seen it so I obviously can't say, but I'm curious. Guardians had them fighting over the orb while establishing both Ronan and the Ravagers, and then they get imprisoned, there's a huge breakout scene, then Knowhere and The Collector are established, The Nova corp coming after them, a huge breakout scene, a reconciliation and plan formed with the Ravagers, and then a coordination with Nova and a massive final battle.
What was going on in Justice League that was more extensive?
3 origin stories for 3 main characters that are more than just minor space criminals. There's a entire backstory for Steppenwolf that we don't fully get. At least with Ronan they gave us something, Steppenwolf was pretty much "me collect boxes. Why? LOL " There's the bullshit with Superman and his resurrection. An Batman thats apparently suicidal for some reason. The aftermath of BVS and how lois lane and how she's handling it. A lot to cover in a 2 hour film. Guardians at least had a simple plot that didn't split into multiple paths IDK, I just think they didn't use the time efficiently more than they needed more time. One thing I learned in architecture design school was that if they give you a month to do a project you'll take a month, and when they start giving you one night, you'll get that shit done in a night. It's all about how you use the time, and less about how much you have. I'm convinced they could have handled it better from a writing standpoint.
