I REALLY wanted to like this movie. I enjoy George Clooney as a director, the cinematographer is a genius, and the actors were good and the script was by the Coen brothers - I was thinking "no way this could go wrong". Yet it did. I actually think it was because of two reasons: 1. the black family sub-plot completely broke the genre and atmosphere of the movie. I know it was Clonneys addition to the script. Too bad he did that. A) The Meyers would deserve their own movie for one, and B, it just didnt fit with the rest which was supposed to be dark/morbid comedy, not a social drama. 2. the bad guys were too bad without being funny. It just went too far, but didnt offer any comedy like in Fargo for example. Nobody was sexy there, nobody was funny really so all you had was a movie filled with DISGUSTING HORRIBLE people that you couldnt even laugh at. So… I gave it 4.5 mostly for the camera work, again that was done so well. Part of the problem is we are dropped into action without any explanation, the characters needed development as well.
