In NY, if you are on public assistance you can not own a car. Not even a clunker. You have to get rid of all worldly possessions so the government can and will help you. Ok, you can have a car, you just can't have it have your name on the pink slip. It can't be registered to you because guaranteed you can not afford insurance. But what about the clever folks who've figured out how to MAKE MONEY while we're supporting them? You know, the ones living in section 8 housing, getting food stamps and free child care and medical care, sitting on their asses with their 8 or 10 kids around them, yet somehow have money to spare. Like when they take in tenants and make money on their free housing. Don't you just love that? I certainly do. NOT.
