From Rotten Tomatoes Audience reviews:
"Three decades of commitment to a story to be thrown out by a director in order to be edgy or daring is not that at all. It's disrespectful to the fans. Luke was my window into Star Wars. You've lost me Disney."
"Does Rian Johnson just hate Star Wars"
"Yet more politically motivated, race and gender baiting trash from the liberal think tank that is Hollywood. I would rather watch the 3 prequels back to back, than be force fed Feminist/Marxist political propaganda. Seriously, ALL the bad guys are white men? All the goodies are ethnic minorities or women? Give me a break. Try and tell a decent science fiction story for once, and leave the identity guff out of it. Pathetic. The only "force" that's strong here, is the forced politics and tokenism."
"This movie threw away everything that meant anything in the Star Wars universe."
"Total slap in the face to long time fans..."
"Well what a disappointment. This is the first time I have ever left a review of a film, just because I am so disappointed. It seems star wars is the latest victim to be sacrificed on the altar of diversity and social justice. Unfortunately like everything now our entertainment culture has to be politicised. Whether it be films, games or even sports. The problem is these people live in a bubble and don't realise people just want to be entertained without political opinions being thrown at them."
"This is a good movie, just not a good Star Wars movie."
The only thing people should take from this film and from Disney's handling of Star War is the line Kylo Ren speaks:
"Let the past die, kill it if you have to."
"It was a letdown. And I was born during the launch of the prequels. I just feel sorry for all those OG diehard fans who waited for 40 years for a movie that would serve Luke justice."
"Great actors but cheap story
Disappointment at it's best"
"This film has some good qualities, the sound as always is phenomenal, some of the visual scenes are fantastic. but none of that matters, because this film reduced Luke Skywalker to sociopathic paranoid hopeless bully. And to make matters worse, it is plainly obvious he was written this way to be a cheap plot device to provide the motivation for Kylo Ren. This movie makes it clear that star wars is now only interested in continuing to make films for years and more importantly make money. They fundamentally changed a beloved character in the worst way possible and used this movie to setup a continual cycle of "new" heroes. This movie failed to address any of the intrigue and mystery of the last film. This film should be called Episode 8: It Doesnt matter. Who is Snoke? it doesnt matter. Who are Reys parents? it doesnt matter. Is Snoke a sith? it doesnt matter. I could continue but whats the point. This film threw Luke Skywalker under the bus in the name of making sure that they can continue to make movies for as long as it is making money. This movie killed Star Wars."
"SW The Last Jedi shows that Hollywood can move on. The movies of the past are just that past. Star Wars belongs to the new fans now." I guess this is a key thing, we have the classic fans disappointed (most of them) and looks like they are renewing the audience.
About the "hate", I guess some people have the right to not to like this movie.
