Actually the question was: Yet Luke cant cast an illusion without dying from exertion? Wouldn't Luke be as strong in the force, at this point of his mastery, as Snoke? So the question was about Luke, not Snoke.
Hmm... okay. But personally it's still not an easy question to answer since we don't have anything to go on as far as Snoke's mastery in comparison. Just what we saw briefly in the throne room. And Snoke's revelation that he was manipulating the shared Force visions of Rey and Kylo. But while that appears to be similar, I'm not sure that's the same type of Force power that Luke was using. I agree that its not the SAME Force power, and I'll even concede that Snoke may be MORE powerful than Luke (we'll never really know though). But my opinion is that Luke should have been at least powerful enough, as a Jedi master of many years, decades even, to do this without then dying from the exertion.
I didn't have a problem with him dying, because I figured that was going to happen anyway. I just minded HOW he died. An illusion... exertion... pfft...
Also, I would've like it if he had stayed on the island, his story not fully resolved, and then JJ could bring him back for more in Ep 9. But again... NOPE.
