I'm hot and cold on this movie. It was very well cast and is visually stunning most of the time. No problems there.
The premise was set up very well, but I could not get over how stupidly the first two characters to get in trouble were written. The action climax was pretty cool, but it seemed to undermine the bigger sci-fi questions this movie started to pose. I agree with moviemouth on being alright with the vagueness of it. The questions it addressed were so big that it would be pretty impossible to completely explain them without being preachy. The action, though I liked it, got in the way a little for me...and none of it would have had to happen if those first two 'scientists' weren't acting like idiots.
Overall, if they didn't play so heavily that this was an "Alien" prequel, I think it would have been much better received. It's a different story in the same universe for me. I didn't hate "Covenant" but I was hoping to learn a little more about the engineers and that lore after "Prometheus."
