Basically I played the original one (and maybe ones a little newer) on NES in the very early 1990's(roughly 1992-ish) and then a little on original Gameboy back in the day (early-to-mid 1990's) but that series definitely peaked with Super Mario 64 on N64 which I played back when it was new basically. after the N64 game I never bothered with the rest.
p.s. forums.dolphin-emu.org/Thread-super-mario-64-hd-texture-pack-v1-5-2017-09-17 ; updates graphics (basically gives you wide screen/higher res graphics but still retains that general look but yet more modern) on Super Mario 64 for the PC running Dolphin emulator. works well with my wireless XBox360 controller on the PC.
