Watched this recently having not seen it in years. It didn't hold up as well as I'd hoped, but still had some great moments. That scene you mentioned for sure, and of course, standout similarly small roles played by Gary Oldman and James Gandolfini. Yeah, I think it holds up just OK. I'm pretty much with you. Not as well as i thought it would. And yeah, the Gandolfini role is great. His scene when he's calmly giving the speech while beating the shit out of Alabama? So good. And another gentleman mentioned Tom Cruise. And he mentioned his criteria: Not being aware you're watching the actor, but rather the character he is playing. Well, Tom Cruise meets that criteria in Collateral. When I watch it, I feel like I'm watching an Ice Cold, Bad Ass professional hitman, as opposed to a whacky. borderline midget, secretly gay, couching jumping Cult member. tom cruise also meets the criteria in this scene from 'The Last Samurai' he's a beaten up War Hero (may have been the Civil War) who was brought overseas for his leadership skills - he's fighting his demons trying to stop drinking coping with all the men he's killed and find peace in his life in a foreign land. gets taken prisoner - falls in love - and this ensues:
