Nicolas Cage is one of my favorite actors
1.Lord of War (2005) - 10/10 (I also think the director of his has a solid reputation with me as out of the six movies he's directed, 4 out of 6 of them score a 7/10 or higher for me(i.e. Gattaca/S1m0ne(underrated)/Lord of War/Good Kill). It used to be 5 out of 6 but one fell off (i.e. In Time (2011)) below the 7/10 or higher standard.)
2.Drive Angry (2011) - 7/10 (underrated with it's 5.4/10 average rating on IMDb)
3.Face/Off (1997) - 6.5-7/10
a bit outside of being considered a favorite...
4.Leaving Las Vegas (1995) - 6-6.5/10
-.The Family Man (2000)
with that said... there used to be a fair amount more of his movies that stood out from the pack but they have since taken a hit for me (basically... Con Air/Gone in Sixty Seconds/Next/Kick-Ass/Knowing/National Treasure/Matchstick Men/The Rock and a bit more(even The Family Man stood out for me at one point but dropped off not that long ago but it's still solid enough for me)). but with that said, I think Nicolas Cage has a solid screen presence and when given the right movie he can shine.
p.s. there is still other Nicolas Cage movies I like but only those 3-5 movies are worth mentioning for me at this point in time.
I like the use of songs in the movie [Lord of War] more than the score, especially "For What It's Worth" by Buffalo Springfield in one of the greatest opening credits scenes of all time.
with that said, when I think of the 2000's movies... Road to Perdition/Lord of War are definitely my Top 2 movies when I think of scores that really add to the movie and it helps the movies themselves are top spec for me to.
p.s. seems that group was a one-hit-wonder with that 'For What It's Worth' song from what I have heard.
My Top 10 Nicolas Cage movies.
1. Matchstick Men
2. Leaving Las Vegas
3. Con Air
4. The Rock
5. 8mm
6. Kick/Ass
7. Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call, New Orleans
8. Face/Off
9. World Trade Center
10. Lord of War
