The way I score movies is for the personal level of enjoyment, some films may not be a great cinematic masterpiece but if I enjoyed it and it gave me what I ask of it, I will give the movie a higher score.
I have to honestly say I was absolutely impressed by this film. What I want and what I have come to expect for the SAW series is for them to impress me, for the ending to surprise me. I yearn for the filmmakers to keep me guessing enough to astound me with the final twist and I think this has been long gone since about SAW IV... until now.
The previous entries after SAW IV had very predictable endings, my mind wasn't challenged again, they were mere torture porn that lacked the mystery element that drove me to the franchise in the first place; but this movie has turned a 180 on me, the whole final twist was so screwed up, so sutil, it was almost sublime...
I give this film 8 out of 10.
I am now begging for new entries in this franchise, they have revitalized a series where the main antagonist has been dead since a decade ago but it is not letting that small detail (being dead) stop him.
