It's better. Gay marriage, abortion rights, civil rights, women's rights. Whatever issues people may have (most are the same our parents had about us and our grandparents had about them, etc), these things trump them all. We've gotten better. While I agree that societal laws have progressed, finally, it's societal norms which make me want to live in a smaller city. Ppl have begun carrying themselves in ordinary life as they would troll online without fear. Outrage culture is also a thing I try not to participate in. Everyone can be outraged at something, & yet in this day & age, everyone acts on everything... it's f'n backwoods. I'm not talking the big cultural issues, I'm talking outrage for the sake of it. "Outrage culture" have existed as long as humanity, it's just what we get outraged about that has changed. It wasn't that long ago people got outraged by a unwed mother, or by people going into church without an hat. They didn't have twitter or facebook, but if they had, they would also have started groups against and for these things calling for action.
