Not all that true to the actual character and was more the filmmakers just wanting to make their own barbarian hero character with some superficial similarities and to cash in on Conan's name. Thankfully, he didn't have enough of a fanbase for people to get upset in the first place.
Plus the plot of the movie isn't that deep or non-formulaic either.
