Adding a mention that a DEEP FREEZE - preferably a Chest Freezer - is the place for long term storage.

That little compartment above the refrigerator is fine for ice cream and things that are not going to be kept all that long. The temperature is not stable what with the constant opening and closing of the refrigerator door.
