While a number of the big nominees haven't opened here yet, this does look like rather a solid list overall. But they always have to throw in something dreadful to irritate me and stink things up a bit, and this year that task falls to Darkest Hour. I think you will appreciate Oldman's performance in Darkest Hour, rudeboy, even if you don't like the film overall. Worth a look for that alone, imo. Darkest Hour is one of those which I have already seen, and I was not at all impressed with his fussy caricature. Not that it was necessarily his fault - I doubt any actor could have added much shading to such a badly written portrayal of Churchill. Give the make-up artists an Oscar, if you must, but - while Oldman certainly has a career worthy of an Academy Award - I'm fairly confident that his winning for this will be another of those cases which is looked back on as right actor, wrong role. But I can live with Oldman's Oscar win - I came to terms with it months ago (the bloggers pre-ordained his win long before anybody had even seen the film). The Best Picture nomination is a joke. It probably isn't the worst film of 2017, but I am not sure there can be a worse movie moment from last year than that scene on the Underground!
