What did you not like about Darkest Hour? I'm a big history buff, particularly WW2 history so what was wrong with it? Just curious so I don't waste my time if it's terrible. Yes, I have a soft spot for this type of film too. But this was so heavy-handed, having to spell everything out - a history book for children would have more subtlety. The kind of film where a character wonders, "What should we call the Dunkirk operation..." and then spins around and looks directly at a Dynamo fan. Where Churchill comments to Eden that the King "Has never forgiven me for supporting his brother's wedding TO WALLIS SIMPSON." Yes, because Eden may not have been aware to whom Edward VIII was married. And that's not to mention a drawn-out sequence on the Underground which is one of the most ridiculous in recent years. Yeah, this is a terrible film... although many people seem to have been won over by it, given its Oscar nominations. Thanks for the heads up. It sounds like it's a history film for someone that knows nothing about history, particularly about the early years of WW2 when England stood almost alone.
