Leaving aside the quality of the overall films, I thought Ford was good in Indy 4, The Force Awakens and Blade Runner 2049. He can certainly pull off the tough older guy part, but Indy 4 was a decade ago and in TFA and Blade Runner 2, he was part of an ensemble cast. It's a different situation for Indy 5 where he's supposed to be the lead in an action adventure film. I hope they can get a good script and work in Indy's advancing years as an integral part of the story. If they do it right, they can give us one last great adventure. I think (in sharp contrast to what I used to think) that they should leave well enough alone at this point; indeed, Crystal Skull was absolutely unnecessary, as Last Crusade (“ last”!) gave us a superb indelible image on which to close the series. Nevertheless, Crystal Skull exists, and they may as well close it up with one more. So I do hope, if they’re actually doing this, for one last great adventure. I genuinely have no real problem with Ford’s age (I think he can pull it off fine, as you wrote); my problem is, as you and Rey Kahuka have noted, the time period. I just don’t think Indy quite fits here. With that said, too, I don’t want them to re-cast Indy; I think the part is very particular to him. This isn’t a Bond situation (and, even then, I don’t think there’s been a single Bond since who has come close to Connery, but that’s a separate discussion). The actor and the role have become one in the public consciousness here.
