People were already complaining about Ford being too old for the role when Crystal Skull was released, and that was 10 years ago.
Anyway that's not the big problem for me personally. My big problem is Disney producing, which doesn't go well with Indy's special relationship with older popular culture. Let's admit it, a lot of early 1900 to 1950s or so popular culture is "racist" by today's standards, with stories about dangerous wilds of the blackest Africa and so forth. Stereotypes are a big part of that era.
There were complaints about The Temple of Doom being racist even back in mid-80s. Hollywood has gotten far more sensitive and 'liberal' since then, and Disney movies especially tend to be quite openly pushing different 'progressive' agendas these days. They are not a company that could produce a Indiana Jones movie the way the old ones were. Indy movie that does not respect older popular culture in not a proper Indiana Jones movie, but just another generic action-adventure movie. In order to make this film, Disney will have to tear out the heart of the series, so to speak. It's not going to be a pretty sight.
