Aside from folklore about lost mines and pirate treasure (which may work for a prologue action scene but a whole movie?) I hadn't heard much from that corner of the globe. I think that Indiana Jones can work in a 60s/70s setting actually. Hell, they could incorporate the change in tech as a theme of the movie. If I did it, I'd present it by way of something like the animated series Jonny Quest which featured several episodes focused on lost cities, missing treasure, and even had a Nazi war criminal as the villain in one episode. True, I think as a prologue to the movie he could be in Australia, that would be interesting. Maybe he could be in South America such as Argentina in the 1960's looking for an artifact and run into some Nazi war criminals. He could run into some Mossad agents hunting the Nazis somehow. Maybe these Nazis discovered the Emerald Tablet that was widely believed to assist in alchemy and they are trying to turn lead into gold or something... Not bad, except they actually did that in one of the novels (I think it was called Philosophers Stone). But with Italian Fascists in North Africa instead.
