Not bad, except they actually did that in one of the novels (I think it was called Philosophers Stone). But with Italian Fascists in North Africa instead.

The Emerald Tablet wouldn't be that interesting when everyone can download the translated text from any website about alchemy. However you could spin a great story about Indiana Jones meeting Fulcanelli the phantom alchemist. Especially since according to legend he became immortal and US Army Intelligence tried to track him down during and after WWII, but Fulcanneli escaped them simply by walking through a concrete wall of a US army base, never to be found again...
