With no involvement from Del Toro i have no reason to care about it, not even at home Exactly. The first one isn’t particularly a great film (although I did enjoy it quite a bit) but what it had going for it is that the visuals, thanks to del Toro, were so jaw dropping and the scenery, and lighting etc... were great as well. This one literally just looks like a bunch of toys fighting in broad daylight completely devoid of del Toro’s touch. Indeed, it's a good popcorn film in the purest sense like Independence Day (the closest comparison I can muster). I'm still in shock that it didn't score a nod for Best Visual effects.
