Yeah, I'd probably prefer a decent continuation, but there's not a lot of room to go anywhere considering how badly it all got fucked up a long the way. Laurie is dead. Jaimie is dead, or never existed at all. Who do we bring back? Busta Rhymes and Tyra Banks? They could have made a new story where Michael Meyers has always existed in Haddonfield with new characters, but I think we've seen a lot of that, and if we were going to get John Carpenter to be involved at all (he's writing the music) it made sense to disregard the sequels that he hated so much... Even though he wrote part 2, he evidently doesn't care much for it. At least there are talented people making this. Whatever anyone thinks about Danny McBride (I think he's pretty funny), he's actually an accomplished writer and David Gordon Green is clearly a talented director. It's nice that at least the series will kind of return to an independent film voice. So that's cool. I've got high hopes for it. Rob Zombie didn't leave us any room to hope for more from him, and to go back to continuing the previously muddled and incoherent time line would have been pretty weird too. I'm willing to go with this approach now. as much as Resurrection gets crapped on - and i get the hate - i thought the beginning in the mental ward was tremendous and great theater - especially the way Michael gave his mask to the nutjob who idolized serial killers. they could have went with the old cop out - it was a dream sequence she was having (even though I hate that - but it's better in my eyes then just disregarding every movie that succeeded the original in a franchise) just my 2 cents.
