Have you seen Abby-74', this one is supposed to be a good Exorcist rip-off.
*edit: Both Abby and Joel Delaney are on you tube. The latter has an excellent transfer. Enjoyed both. Abby was quite hilarious and Delaney was a lot more real, grounded and believable than I had anticipated. An excellent supernatural\possession\psycho thriller that worked on all it's levels.
I have longed to see Abby for many, many years. It was cheap, but well enough acted and it's premise was taken seriously and not a parody, although it is a cheap Exorcist rip-off. The predominantly black cast were appealing and in spite of it's horror theme it was a warm film.
William Girdler was a hack director, with not much sense of style, but his films were functional enough and he made a lot of money for the producers with the few movies he directed, until his sad early demise. Both Abby-74' and Grizzly-76' were smash hits, budget to box office comparison. Girdler was sued by Warner Bros. for imitating Exorcist and Warner Bros. won, and the distributor of Grizzly got greedy and decided to keep all it's profits, until they were sued. Girdler then died in 78 in a helicopter crash. He was only 30.
