Because the film itself is. It tries to make us think Diana is in real danger if she leaves Themyscira, but she's never in any real danger. It's supposed to be a "grounded" film but we get stuff like magic strength enhancing gas, we're supposed to see Steve's death as some great sacrifice but it was senseless, etc. I never got the impression that the movie was supposed to be particularly “grounded”. Are you forgetting that the movie had Greek Gods as part of its setting? The Gods who only appear in flashbacks and stories, and we only ever meet one (who is defeated rather quickly and easily)? Yeah, it's DC still unable to commit to being non-grounded.
