The Swedish title of this movie was Skjuta eller Skjutas (translated Shoot or Be Shot), it got that title from a magazine competition. It's a great black/white western, and since it was directed by Anthony Mann, one can't escape the thought that this was thought to have starred James Stewart, but they suddenly had a big verbal row during Night Passage, where Mann was replaced. Henry Fonda is nearly iconic, but also human, and Anthony Perkins as the too unexperienced new Sheriff, are both great in at the time uncharacteristic challanging roles. This film reminded me just how soft and likeable Anthony Perkins could be when he was younger. With some of his later roles, he became a lot more hard-edged.
