If WWI era planes are as flammable as you say, it kind of sounds like Steve wouldn’t have much time to run away, what with the volume of gases that were in the plane.
If he'd tried and still died in the blast, it would at least show he tried.
That seems like it would’ve been a pointless thing to include if he’s just going to die anyway.
