In medieval times, royal succession was often decided by war or combat. But now in the 21st century, I'm not aware of any monarchy currently in existence anywhere in the world today where royal succession is decided by mortal combat. Civilization has advanced to the point where transition of a Crown or a throne is done by a peaceful transfer of power and not by bloodshed and mortal combat.
Except for Wakanda. Wakanda is supposedly a technologically advanced nation. Yet now in the 21st century, Wakanda still follows the medieval and barbaric tradition of royal succession by bloodshed and mortal combat.
1 MCU fan said he prefers that a King have to prove himself worthy of the throne rather than inherit the throne through royal birth. But even if Wakanda wanted their King to prove himself worthy, there are peaceful ways to do that without bloodshed and mortal combat. They could design an Olympic-style decathlon competition in which challengers for the throne compete and the winner becomes King. No bloodshed and no mortal combat.
Yet Wakanda still holds on to their barbaric tradition of royal succession by bloodshed and mortal combat. The only reason I can think of that they would hold on to such a medieval and barbaric tradition now in the 21st century is because Wakandans are bloodthirsty and have a large appetite for bloodlust.
Wakandans enjoy seeing blood spilled and human life taken, similar to how the ancient Romans enjoyed seeing gladiators fight in the Coliseum. The rest of the world has advanced beyond such barbaric spectacle in the 21st century, but not Wakandans. Wakandans are still bloodthirsty and still enjoy seeing blood spilled and human life taken.
Could the Wakandans' large appetite for seeing blood spilled and human life taken be a side effect of living in an environment surrounded by all that vibranium? Because there just doesn't seem to be any other logical explanation for why a 21st-century nation (especially 1 that is supposedly technologically advanced) to still hold on to such a medieval and barbaric spectacle of bloodshed and mortal combat.
