Its a great point. The film basically is reinforcing the stereotype that Africans will still be primitive and savages even if they had kept their natural resources. Or, it could suggest that African’s with advanced technology and freedom from colonialism would not have held their society to euro-centric ideas of civility. The Wakandan system of succession is based on well established, centuries-old rules and traditions. Who are you to say they are primitive? Contesting a hand to hand combat duel where the loser may be legally murdered to decide the throne which requires attributes greater than just simply skilled combat is pretty primitive. The fact they also heavily believe in panther gods, ancestral rituals and are separated into "tribes" (basically real life Africans) also show even though they may possess advanced technology, they are not yet scientifically cultured as in a secular democratic society.
