So I saw The Ritual (2017). It was pretty good.

I kind of get what you mean here. There are a good number of things to like about it from a craftsmanship point of view, but the script is rather lacking in some ways. Only one character is really of any interest at all, and the group dynamic is pretty weak when that should be the strength of the whole thing since it's the whole basis of the story.

But.. it's well shot and does some really cool stuff with the effects and design of its monster design. The best parts of the movie are the sort of psychological surrealist moments that are achieved soy through camera work and set design, and that stuff his handled really well.

It's a mixed bag, but ultimately it's got enough good stuff going for it that I'd definitely recommend giving it a watch on Netflix. I don't know if it would have been worth a trip to the theater though .
