A Macy's store is closing at one of the local malls, which means a mega close-out sale. Last week, I went roaming around to see what good buys I could find. I have been needing some basic small glasses, a 12 piece collection of "stemless wine glasses," was going for $14.00. OK, sold. They qualify as small glasses, and the shape is nice.
I wasn't planning to use them as replacement wine glasses, but I poured some wine in one, and now I'm considering giving most of my stemmed ones to the Good Will. These glasses are sturdier, and steadier. I don't have a dishwasher, and I always take care to wash "regular" wine glasses very gingerly. I can, also, save shelf space by using the same glasses for a more purposes.
There was a debate, years ago, on the old IMDb, about whether stem ware should be held ONLY by the stem, or if it was acceptable to grasp the bowl. The main point from the "stem only," advocates was that the bowl must be kept pristine from fingerprints. I didn't have a strong opinion, on that one ... I drink from them both ways. But, these aren't unsightly from prints.
I think that I've made the switch.
