If I had to guess, this sentiment might be more common with people who have objectivist leanings, and the thought is that no one is in a better position to judge a work than its creator. So if the creator doesn't think it's good, it must not be any good, and I shouldn't like it either. Of course I don't at all agree with that, but that might be how the thinking goes. That may be true still i find it stupid to stop enjoing something just because the people or person behind it don`t think its any good. John Lennon hated having written It's Only Love, but it's among my top Beatles songs. I find it funny that Ian Anderson thinks Aqualung wasn't that good and that The Broadsword and the Beast and later stuff was better.
