Wings(27) Amazing for the time. 1927! One of the most worthy Best Film winners ever. Went home last night not expecting to see Wings and then I pressed some buttons and there it was. I DVR'ed it. Seen it before and will watch it this weekend. The aerial combat scenes are amazing, especially because the stars, Richard Arlen and Buddy Rogers, had to fly themselves, not stuntmen. Had some hokey elements. And Clara Bow flashed the camera. She was THE sex symbol at the time. Bet a lot of male movie doers with they had a pause button at the time. Love silents and loved Wings. However, Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans should be recognized as the first Best Picture winner. There were two films that got "Oscars", Wings for "Best Production" and Sunrise for "Best Unique and Artistic Picture". Wings is great but Sunrise is maybe the greatest silent and still one of the greatest movies ever. Is you can stomach silents, let alone b/w, catch Sunrise.
