Then it's everyone being selfish when they let the poor starve on the streets, and not just putting the failings of western culture onto the followers of a specific deity or two. It also means that anyone can make a difference, and they don't need to sit around and wait for the mouthpiece of a certain god to tell them to pull their finger out and try to make the world a better place.
