I choked up on that one because watching him dance with anyone, I always got the feeling that his favorite partner was himself. I know he was absolutely brutal to Debbie Reynolds for which she forgave him.

That was from "What's Entertainment?".
In the movie on which this is based, Kelly admitted that his favorite dancing partner was (wait for it!) Fred Astaire.
Could be the reason why the two were teamed for THAT'S ENTERTAINMENT II.
