Age difference between Oliver and Elio in "Call Me By Your Name": 7 years
If the story had been about Oliver being a teacher or an authority figure and having an affair with a 17 year old (male or female), then there'd be more of an issue. Call Me By Your Name is a summer romance that is fairly free of strife or conflict.
Anyone want to put the money where their words are about any "love story" between an adult and underage person- in a greater age range- being so much as critically acclaimed!
Oh, wait, there's already a movie called Lolita!
Not to mention there have been plenty of coming of age movies about teenage boys and older women, and nobody gives a flying fuck about those. People are hostile to this movie because it's two gays.
