As far as I know, THE FABULOUS DORSEYS was the only big-band movie where the subjects played themselves, rather than their parts going to professional stars.
All I've got to say is that as actors...Tommy and Jimmy were great musicians!
IMO, the best performance was from Sara Allgood as the boys' mother.
Some day, I ought to see THE JACKIE ROBINSON STORY, where Jackie played himself.
