I'm not disputing your claim that:
As far as I know, THE FABULOUS DORSEYS was the only big-band movie where the subjects played themselves, rather than their parts going to professional stars.
I am TRYING to explain WHY, IF that were true, that others would have HAD to play the biography-ee.
