Sure, that's one definition of musician, but another is someone who plays an instrument. It's not uncommon to use the word to categorize those who play instruments from those that sing, or write songs, or conduct. It just depends on what sense you're using it in. That is an interesting viewpoint. As a person who has played sundry instruments since the age of four, including piano recorder, clarinet and harp, I STILL don't consider myself a 'musician'. In other words, although I have a level of proficiency in many musical areas, I don't think that my proficiency level warrants the term 'musician'. I know the feeling. I started playing guitar in my early teens and still don't feel I'm proficient enough to be anything more than a "bedroom musician."
