This argument was only used by the usual suspects of modest analytical skills anyway. WW got good reviews because it had
- Good writing, twists and character arcs: With a overpowered hero not being written as a Mary Sue but being wrong and learning about the nature of man.
- It treated the subject of world war and the horrors of war respectfully - remember films with similar storylines had laser gun battles in the time of Holocaust. - Good interaction between male and female characters without depicting males as useless or toxic.
- Most importanly , it took risks: In a toxic manchild genre where the very few female-led films flopped mercilessly, it created the first successful female led CBM and an media sensation - and it even conquered a new audience which s the hardest thing to do.
Just the facts, folks.
