Of course it makes sense. Critics don't mind over-hyping a movie that's at least okay but they don't want to make themselves look like complete idiots by giving a bad movie 8/10 (aside from Armond White). They don’t have to give it an 8/10. They could just say that it’s a passable film and move on. Besides, why would a bunch of professional critics have to worry about looking like idiots for giving a movie a good review? Because they want to be taken seriously? Because they want their readers to be able to trust their opinion?
