Sexual orientation is not a choice of lifestyle. Some people are, in fact, born gay. Everyone is born somewhere on the continuum of human sexuality that runs from heterosexual to homosexual. Some people are born gay, lesbian, bi-sexual or transgendered. That's a fact supported by exhaustive scientific research, including neuroscientific research into the hard-wiring of the human brain. It's also a fact that the dominant heterosexual world-view makes it hard for those who aren't heterosexual to be comfortable with who they are (not who they choose to be). It's hard not to internalize the belief that there's something inherently wrong with you, when that's the message you've been given your whole life. Do straights take responsibility for their "choice" to be a heterosexual? Because if homosexuality is a choice, then so must heterosexuality be. Only, of course, it isn't, anymore than being born with red hair or brown eyes is a choice. This is not a hard concept to understand, once religious rhetoric is removed. ________ Well said spiderwort, and so true. What is most sad and scary, though, is that when the homophobes and bigots such as the ignorant palooka jamesavalon who you are replying to - or the notorious m-slovak79, read an intelligent, factual reply such as yours it does not even give them pause for thought, they just say nothing and simply continue posting their lies and distortions. Do you think this is because they lack the intelligence to understand what you are saying? Or, do you think they lack any form education? Or is is because they have been brainwashed since birth? What's sad and scary is that people WANT to believe that people are born with certain exact sexual preferences to the extent they will overlook the very simple and undeniable fact that there is not a shred of scientific evidence to support it. Just because someone claims to have been born gay doesn't mean they were born gay. No person can have that kind of memory of their earliest years. This does not require much thought. There is no gay gene. Period. Simple. In any population there are statistically going to be people with sexual deviancies who are not heterosexual, which is biologically the natural state of the human species. Humans are not sequential hermaphrodites, at least not naturally. Humans are also not parthenogenetic in nature. To reproduce, we need a male and a female. This is not a difficult concept unless you have been thoroughly brainwashed to believe that we MUST assume for the sake of political correctness that all people are born with a sexual preference that we cannot control. No, our environments shape who we eventually become. It shapes what we like and what we don't like. It has a much greater impact than our most basic biological drives and homosexuality is proof. Now, if liberals weren't so desperate to maintain the idea we are all born with irresolute sexual preferences from the moment we are conceived, they would realize that this does not mean that people CHOOSE to be gay, which is almost wholly lost on people who are indeed brainwashed into this asinine politically correct position. Science is not political, unless you are a liberal trying to tell the world the planet is burning into oblivion. But, scientifically, there is exactly NO proof that anyone is born homosexual.
