I think the DCEU isn't a think and was named by people other than WB/DC. They've just gone with it and said these movies are a part of a multiverse so they can end these movies and go another direction if they wanted.
I really think WB rushed things. MoS was ok to start the DCEU - an unpopular opinion I know - but BVS tried to do too much. Instead of just being about Batman and Superman, they had to include Doomsday, WW and lay the seeds for Justice League. WB tried to do too much at once.
