You need not be aware of any accounting principles and bookkeeping rules, but underperform is not the same as flopping. A movie with approx 250 budget costs does not flop when making +660M not even including earnings from other non-theatrical sources such as product sales streaming etc. Thus in the long run JL must even have made money. Maybe we will never know.
