The issue is, 99.9999999999999 ad infinitum percentage of children are growing up in a heterosexist, dominated and promoted society that is seen as "normalcy". They have a mother and father and male\female unions are set up as the societal norm. I can't speak for female children, but I can recall as far back around 4 or 5 as a male child, that I knew I was different and would get a little excited around some of the male gender, in a way that being around females didn't do it for me. I was very sexual. That was a "normal" feeling for me, but I knew by about 7yrs of age I wasn't supposed to be feeling like this, due to what was promoted and the disdain for same sex attraction. Most kids are not stupid, and learn to build up survival and protective techniques at a very early age. They just don't have the mental development or language skills to express themselves.
Again, I can't speak for females, but the large number of males who were going to be sexually attracted to females, would take what they see for granted. It is ok to be "gay" and for those children who aren't, then I don't see anything wrong with them being exposed to something that would be perceived as different to them. Being gay is different and a different sociology also. Unfortunately, the sexuality minority takes a back seat. When the argument of "nature or nurture" rears it's confounded head, heterosexuals are the ones doing the breeding, it's their fault and they can just get over it. If children are taught and conditioned that no sexuality is superior over the other, only that one is more common than the other and they are both "normal" and on equal standing, then perhaps people might get a little more understanding and evolvement in the process.
