I define religion as: A culture centred upon the worship of God or gods. I don't think religion needs culture. That's the great thing about Christianity. You can keep your culture while being a part of it only discarding the portions of it that contradict the doctrine. I think of religion much more like an organization of like mind people who share similar goals, values, & hopes while adhering to the tenets of the organization. A good religion has much more in common with a corporate or government structure than it does a society since it is, by its very nature, discriminatory towards those who wish to practice it or be a part of it. That always sounds worse than it is but it is perfectly normal. Nobody says you cannot keep your own culture, while following a particular religion. There are all kinds of cultures. There are national cultures; cultures centred on race; even cultures centred on languages. You can belong to more than one culture at the same time. As a Christian, & more specifically a Catholic, I belong to the same religious culture as Maya. However, Maya is an American, while I am a Canadian. Skyhawke is a Canadian, but, he is both a Buddhist & an atheist. But, we belong to the same NATIONAL culture.
