The opening scene is pretty good, too. Very much reminded of the first scene with Angel Eyes from The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Just that slow escalation into inevitable violence. The opening is as good, maybe even better. Both scenes struck me as overwritten and burdensomely long, which detracted from the tension. The Russian roulette scenes in The Deer Hunter, especially the first one, were agonizing. |
