yes, the romance was pretty mediocre. But getting rid of it like this in the finale by saying "the previous film were crap, lets forget about them" is showing how un-planned and messy these films are. There is no coherent vision, just excessive fanservice pandering. I don't know, but I always got the feeling the romance between Thor and Jane was never going to work out in the long run (and for me, personally that whole subplot dragged down the first two Thor films because Hemsworth and Portman had ZERO chemistry). I'm glad they did away with all the superfluous elements that had nowhere else to go (Thor & Jane, Thor's family problems) and focused on making a light-hearted space adventure. Worked for me. fair enough, I hoped at least to get a Red Wedding to close the dangling thread somehow. They killed Portman off in Star Wars why not here, would have played well with the Ragnorok theme, but no use fighting Fragglerock I guess.
