I don't think George Lucas is all that creative to be honest. He did well with Star Wars and Indiana Jones but that was really it. Yes, he could have done a lot more, he could have used his money to fund up and coming directors and screen writers etc But he seemed more interested in re-doing Star Wars films and pumping out sub standard prequels. Although there was a time he was a risk taker I don't think that lasted for very long once he achieved his mega success. All he did? You mean all he did was 2 of the greatest movie franchises of all-time ... and that's not enough??? The movie industry is better because of George Lucas ... very few people can say that. To be fair, neither idea was particularly creative. They were nostalgic throwbacks to older serials that he liked as a kid. He seems like a guy who had a small handful of concepts that he wanted to polish to sheen rather than a guy who was bursting with fresh ideas. That said, there is no denying his impact on the media industry-- and not just film. Don't forget the impact of LucasArts (a division of LucasFilms) which laid the groundwork for modern graphical MMOs, a now billion dollar industry of its own, with Club Caribe as well as numerous adventure game titles that dominated the 80s and 90s. Or ILM or the creation of Pixar. There's no doubt he wanted to advance the arts and he succeeded beyond anyone's wildest dreams even if was just planting the seed for future growth. I don't find the man particularly inspiring as a creative force in terms of his own works but in terms of what he has fostered in others and paved the way for, he is legendary. I think he's done just fine with his funding.
