In an interview promoting RPO, Sheridan was asked about the tone of Dark Phoenix because since Logan the X-Men films are all about tone, with this film feeling less like a superhero movie.
"Everyone was on the same page with the idea that we were approaching it as much more of a grounded drama versus a superhero movie."
Sheridan also gave Marvel a backhanded compliment which is a bold move for someone contracted to the studio.
"Something that's getting old with those universes and all the Marvel movies is that they all look the same and they're all doing the same thing. We really wanted to shake it up, in that sense, and take a different approach to this. Simon Kinberg, who wrote the past three X-Men, directed Dark Phoenix, and I'm super, super excited about it. I think it will turn out well and that it will be a different X-Men than we've ever seen before, so that's exciting."
Nice to see an actor to actually be honest for once and let their feelings known publicly regarding rival franchises. And what he said is certainly true, its a a shame Dark Phoneix has been pushed back a little bit but hopefully for a better final product.
