Another analogy I like to think of is that God is an infant in a small bathtub full of consciousness and the Universes are fart bubbles being created by accident.

Maybe god just wants us to think he cares and can help us so that we will keep voting for him to be god. That's like politicians who only want us to think they can help just so they can get elected, then they never do anything.
